In what is assured to be a belter of a kickstart to the party season, on Sunday 5th May 2024, Them’s the Breaks brings you a celebration of the finest beats, bassline and breakbeat.

This inaugural event, is held in association with the team at FingerLickin’ Management.

Mucky Weekender and Music Box Radio regular Sarah White and the mighty Ragnar Hammersbane will ease you into a showcase set from scratch DJ extraordinaire, producer and renowned Cut-and-Paste party rocker, the one and only Jimi Needles.

Supported by Global Breaks Festival and Global Funk Fam regular DJ i3one5 and local boy The Frenzy closing with a classic breaks vinyl set.

It’s a bank holiday Sunday evening, and local too so there’s no excuse.

The artists performing:

Jimi Needles

Jimi’s musical origins are rooted in Hip Hop, Soul and Funk but brings to the turntables a fusion of pin-point scratching over breaks and bass music. His DIY remixes and cut-n-paste antics leave virtually no genre untouched creating the ultimate live party soundtrack whilst always showing recognition to the old school DJ techniques and retro classics.

He’s best known for his genre-spanning party mixtapes, deck-defying festival sets and his array of varied bootlegs and original productions on labels such as Swing And Bass, Thick Boy Records, Beating Heart & Jungle Strikes. ♫♪♪

Sarah White

Badgirl of Breaks.  Femme Fatale of Funk.  Sarah smashes sets all over the country.  A firm festival favourite, she studied under Terry Hooligan and the “On the Rise DJ Academy”, before landing her own radio show on Essexunderground247.com.

Sarah follows in the footsteps of the greats, counting Jazzy Jeff, Fatboy Slim, KraftyKuts and The Freestylers among her influences.  One or two of those acts have even been spotted in the audience of her own shows.

Tipped to be one of the next big names on the circuit, Sarah makes a fantastic addition to any lineup!

Ragnar Hammersbane

Ragnar Hammersbane is a “genre-fluid” producer and DJ, with a particular speciality in creating tasty mashups, perfect for the dance floor.

Bursting onto the Twitch Music scene in 2021, Ragnar’s first edit, “Burnt Blunts”, was featured on BBC Radio1 Xtra, and has become a firm festival favourite among the collective ofGhettoFunk DJs known as the “Global Funk Fam”.

Teaming up with BSide, his second release, “Honkers”, found airtime on primetime Friday night, on BBC Radio 2. His unreleased edit of KraftyKuts’ Enter Sandman bootleg, “Who Told Ragnar He Could Do This”, was played on the main stage at one of Spain’s biggest festivals, Mad Cool, in 2023.

A life-long fan of Classic Rock, Ragnar has always complained that Rock is good for driving to, but you can’t dance to it. He aims to change that, dropping famous guitar riffs over funky bass lines, and creating a unique take on the GhettoFunk and Breakbeat sound.

A new face to the scene, Ragnar did not start learning to mix until a little over two years ago. Despite this, after just a year of performing around his home city of Manchester, he teamed up with his major influences, ASkillz, KraftyKuts and The Nextmen, to perform a live event inLondon, 2023’s “Winter Shake”. His first festival appearances came later that year, at SuckaFest and Mucky Weekender, where his latest edit, “Push Uppers”, almost brought the tent down!

Ragnar excels in warm-up slots, taking a crowd from head-bopping by the bar, to head-banging at the stage. He has been a returning opener for Manchester’s premier breaks and DnB crew, Digitise Soundsystem, and twice appeared as a guest DJ on KraftyKuts’s livestreams.
